Death Note Black Edition story by Tsugumi Ohba, art by Takeshi Obata
The Mighty Pen
Death Note is now being released in special Black Editions! Not only do you get a newly redesigned all-black exterior, but you also get two volumes of manga in one book!
In the world of Death Note, gods of death, known as Shinigami, do exist and they each carry what is known as a Death Note, a notebook that kills! Ryuk, a rather imposing Shinigami resembling a punk-rocker brought back from the dead, tries to liven up his drab existence by dropping his notebook into the human world, which is picked up by high-school honor student Light Yagami.
But this is no ordinary notebook. It’s a deadly weapon that kills anyone whose names are written in it. Justifying his actions as ridding the world of “evil,” Light is on a mission to create a utopia with his pen!
Light, calling himself Kira to protect his identity, is not without supporters. But not everyone in the human world agrees with his version of righteousness. The local police, Interpol and legendary detective “L,” see Kira as a mass-murderer. This split brings about a truly profound question: Is there really a line that clearly divides “good” and “evil”?
After twelve FBI agents are murdered, Light becomes a suspect, but he’s surprisingly invited to join the task force team by “L.” A tense game of wits ensues between the two brilliant minds of Light and L in university halls, tennis courts and the task force headquarters.
