Deck-Types: Fire Burning on the Duel Floor
Any Duelist who’s played the offensive for long quickly learns that a
good defense is a must. But there’s a big difference between protecting
yourself and just “playing safe.” Burn Decks prove that sniping from
behind closed doors can be deadly if done right. Let’s take a look at
how Duelists can blast their opponents’ Life Points to nothing without
venturing beyond the defenses they build.
Burning Since the World’s Been Turning
Burn Decks have been around since the beginning, depleting your
opponent’s Life Points via effect damage while keeping your own Life
Points safe. However, while damage-dealing effects are common, finding
the right combo still takes work, as does deciding how to keep your
opponent out of your hair. Work one strategy into the other if you can.
The Fireproof Door
Chances are you’ll only deal around 1000 damage per turn, so you’ll need
a lot of defense while you chisel your opponent’s Life away. In fact,
try to keep your opponent from attacking at all if possible. Also pack a
wide range of effect-negating cards, since losing the wrong cards at
the wrong time can leave your strategy in ashes.
Burning Bridges
Keeping your own options open is also tricky. Faster Burn Decks can use
up your hand pretty quickly, so give yourself a way to reload. Also,
consider packing at least one or two stronger monsters just in case
things go south. Never let a clever opponent leave you on ice!
Try This
Your Little Friend
Bolster your effect damage with direct attacking monsters like Plasma Ball and Drill Barnacle. Just prepare a quick exit before your opponent counterattacks.

Other Cards
Prime Material Dragon: Since this guy turns effect damage into Life Point gain, get rid of this card ASAP.
Messenger of Peace: For only 100 Life Points per turn, you can leave all monsters with 1500 ATK or more dry-docked.
Wall of Revealing Light: Pay as many Life Points as you like to stop monsters with equal ATK cold.
Icy Crevasse: If your opponent destroys exactly one of your monsters, destroy one of his and damage him equal to its ATK.
